and it was all good

[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51V1VMkuyx0″]

on this day, i brought missus to meet the whole family - and it was good.

i came home and chatted with my mom for quite a bit - and it was good.

we talked, we joked and we discussed about missus - and it was good.

for the very first time in my life, she asked, “Any plans for marriage?”.

And it is good =]

vertiginous compulsions

Posted on Thursday 24 January 2008

the terrible itch in the throat - like little aphids crawling all over and the ladybugs chewing their heads off, gave me quite a bad fever. i was shuffling between being sensitively aware of my surroundings to missing whole chairs totally, knocking them over.

i hate being sick.

and i’ve been a grumpy old man to the missus too, much to her surprise. but being a sweetie herself, she got it all down when she is having a bad day herself.

compound facades

Posted on Wednesday 23 January 2008

in continuation of friends with a tag, you would realise yourself that with different groups of friends, you may behave differently. what drives this subtle and sometimes, drastic changes in temperamental, behaviour and even intonation of your voice?

recall that with social groups and situations, we may subconsciously display the most appropriate and comfortable front to fit into the scenerio. for example, when with colleagues, you may behave in a dynamic yet business-like way. On the other hand, when you’re with your long-time friends such as those you’ve known since primary school, you may find yourself displaying a jovial, childlike behaviour.

are we lying to ourselves and the others, in behaving this way? Or which in any case, just a purely unintentional effect leftover from our primordial survival traits?

i dare not say that we have a facade fixated with a certain group or person, but it seems to me that the whole idea of it is to be as dynamic as possible. which in any case, reflects the continuity and the many changes that happens all the time with relationships - be it acquaintances, friends, colleagues, family and partners.

meme: 10 little things that makes me happy

Posted on Tuesday 15 January 2008

so i am tagged by my brudder. brudder tag, so die die must do (else she nag and nag and whine and whine, sibeh marfan).

1) Having a good meal with good company.
Singapore as a food paradise, we could find lotsa excellent yet economical food around. But what makes a satisfying meal complete is the company you are in. I make it a point to round about a friend or two, or even a group for a decent meal each month.

2) Having a day with no schedule.
Once in a while, i’ll get restless and wild. On such days, it is either i’m horny (probably) or i just feel like breaking out of the monotonous life for a day (very likely). On such a day, i will pack my bag, bring a book or two, my camera, sketchpad and pencils and head out. Anywhere that interests me, anything that draws me to.

3) Seeing green
As in seeing nature. I like to get away from bustle of life and hit the countryside/nature parks/Ubin/anywhere remote and shut myself. Get in touch with Mother Nature.

4) Having a coffee and sitting at the coffeehouse, people-watching.
People amuses me. By watching them discreetly, i imagine what is their lifestory. With each line on their face and emotion, i wonder how are they like as a person

5) Lying down and watching stars
There’s always something about the nightsky that amazes me. from the dawn of human consciousness, man looked up into the skies and wonder what lies above and beyond. we still do the same though with the heavy light pollution and glow from our street lamps, we no longer could make up constellations but only the brightest of all the stars. i still look up now and then, reminded of how little and short our lives are compared to the beauty of the universe.

6) Sleeping.
Rest.Needed.Very.Much.

7) Seeing kids running.
……and see them fall. And climb back up on their own. Gives hope to see that there is still hope for the human race.

8 ) something sweet
…like the things she say. =]

9) listening to music
music is the universal soul. listen hard.

10) being with the missus.
self-explanatory. =]

Geek Stuff: My PC Crashed

Posted on Tuesday 8 January 2008

Hoho, my PC finally crashed after being switched on for the past…..ermmm…18 months? Really, I didnt expect Micr0$oft to last THAT long. HAHA!

So, which comes to sense; how am i able to go online while at home? Well, you gonna thank the peeps at Linux for it. I’m currently running Knoppix 5.1 off a ‘live’ CD. Meaning: An OS that runs off a CD without installation whatsoever.

Basically, it is really really handy. I’m still able to access my files in my HDD to backup the impt stuff to other drives. Go online and check mail, MSN, surf, blog about this and EVEN, even open documents, edit them. In short, whatever i had previously with Micr0$oft - i can do it off a CD without installing anything at all.

Also, with Knoppix i could do some checks of my system to troubleshoot what is that bugger than killed my pc. Basically, you could use Linux to recover your crashed system. How cool is that?

The only drawback is that running this off a CD, it will create a RAMDISK (think it as a temporary HDD that will go -poof- when you shutdown) and definitely, it will not be as fast as an installed system.

There is another that does the same called Ubuntu. Do check it out these two alternate OSes when your M$ system crashes! At least it could save you some time!

update: right after this post. i went to tinkle around the files with Knoppix. Boot into recovery, did some magic, and voila~ its up and running again, faster too! wheee~
